Saint Mary’s has risen to the fifth-ranked position in the Best Regional Universities–West category for 2022, according to the U.S. News and World Report. This designation underscores the College’s status as a leading institution of higher education, delivering an exceptional education and transforming the lives of our students.

“It is extremely gratifying to learn that we have once again risen in the annual rankings and are being recognized as one of the five best Regional Universities of the West,” said Corey Cook, PhD, Interim Provost and Chief Academic Officer. “This ranking is a reflection that Saint Mary’s distinctive Catholic, Lasallian, and liberal arts traditions and its broad array of innovative undergraduate, graduate, professional, and continuing education programs are empowering students to lead meaningful and rewarding personal and professional lives.”

The report also places Saint Mary’s in the top 10 for Best Colleges for Veterans and for Best Undergraduate Teaching among Regional Universities in the West. Saint Mary’s also earned high distinctions for Social Mobility and Best Undergraduate Business program. Each year, the College consistently earns high rankings, sharing notable positions among many of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the nation.

U.S. News and World Report groups colleges based on the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, the most widely accepted classification system in the United States. Carnegie categories are the accepted standard in U.S. higher education and have been used by U.S. News and World Report since the first Best Colleges rankings was published in 1983. With more than 15 measures of academic quality, the web version of U.S. News 2022 Best Colleges provides data-driven information and guidance to help prospective students and their families understand their higher education options. The magazine’s Best Regional Universities West rankings feature distinctive higher education institutions that offer a full range of undergraduate programs and some master's programs and doctoral programs.
